A few words about us...

How do people become members of a new cultural or social group? How do they acquire the cultural information, such as norms and schemas, characteristic of that group? What are the implications of such changes for well-being? The CIEL Lab focuses on these questions.

Our long term goal is to better understand and facilitate the social processes at play when a person joins a new cultural of social environment. Although these processes take place in many contexts, we focus mostly on the case of migrants - a crucial issue for many societies.

There are many ways to approach this research topic, but our projects tend to converge on the role of various forms of social participation (interpersonal relations, daily interactions, social networks, etc.) in migrants' cultural adaptation.
